Actor Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent in the teen vampire movie "Twilight" out November 21, cruises around town in a rare (even by Hollywood standards) ecofriendly car -- a 2000 Honda Insight hybrid. It was the first gasoline-electric hybrid car sold in the U.S.

He bought the used Insight three years ago when he moved to Los Angeles. While hybrids are commonplace now, Gathegi was one of the few when he bought his daily driver.

"Ahead of the curve I am, ahead of the curve," he laughs. "My car is actually appreciating in value. They don't make them anymore, so they're in demand. I've got 230,000 miles on it, and it's still running like a champ. There aren't that many. I think they're God ugly. They look like little bullets, space vehicles, but are very environmentally conscious; and gas being what it is, it's really the only thing that makes sense."

Gathegi mostly just drives his Insight to appointments and then back home. "It's my A-to-B'er is what I call it, it gets me from here to there," he says. "I love to drive, I just hate being in traffic. Living in L.A., there's constant traffic. It's a two-seater, so I have an excuse: I don't have to take a lot of people around."

Gathegi gives his Insight a 5 rating on a scale of 10 because his dream car is the green supercar -- the Fisker Karma, the plug-in hybrid that goes 0 to 60 in less than 6 sec. "An Aston Martin would be a 10; the Fisker Karma is this new car that's being released in 2010, which is a 10. A Fisker is an Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche all rolled into one and an electric car. It's the perfect blend of sexy, sleek, sport, luxury car, but the most environmentally conscious car out there."

Gathegi is about to preorder the Karma, and with the "Twilight" craze predicted to be on par with the "Harry Potter" phenomenon, the $80,000 pricetag is not a problem.
