The economy is in the toilet, and the world's automakers are feeling the effects, but as the old saying goes, the (SEMA) show must go on. Despite the torrent of bad news lately, most of the major automotive players are still bringing a respectable - and in some cases, significant - amount of sheetmetal to the annual bonanza of aftermarket parts and tricked out rides that is the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association Show in Las Vegas.
The 2008 SEMA show kicks off on election day, Tuesday November 4, and runs until Friday November 7. Headlining the show is the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which was chosen as the official car of SEMA. To celebrate the Camaro's status, GM is putting together a special one-off concept called the Camaro Black. Of course, the Camaro won't be the lone Pony Car representative at SEMA -- especially this year. Chrysler has tarted-up several new Dodge Challengers, including one with the Viper's V-10 shoehorned under the hood called the Dodge Challenger SRT10 concept. In addition, a showroom floor full of overhauled Mustangs will also be on display to appease the Blue Oval faithful.
Other highlights include tricked-out variants of the redesigned 2009 Dodge Ram and 2009 Ford F-150 trucks, Lexus IS F, Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Sedan, Nissan GT-R, Toyota Venza, and the return of the "Firehawk" as a Pontiac G8.
