Here it is, your one-stop source for what's new in the world of sport/utility vehicles, trucks, and full-size vans. Our alphabetical compilation is based on the best information available as of press time. In each spec chart, the information on curb weight, brakes, and fuel economy apply to the base trim level of the model in question. Expect bigger numbers and better equipment on up-level models. The estimated prices listed range from the bottom trim level to the top-of-the-line version, but don't include options, destination charges, or taxes.
Acura SLXSubstantial changes mark the Acura {{{SLX}}}'s arrival for '98. Though photos are not yet available (the '97 model is shown), this big luxury-ute wears a new front end that couples with other styling cues to modernize the look. A newly enlarged 3.5-liter/215-horsepower DOHC V-6 takes the place of the old SOHC powerplant, bringing a heady spike to horsepower, torque, and performance. It's combined with a push-button-controlled 4WD system. There are also improvements to the standard ABS, cruise control, and audio system. Inside you'll find a freshened interior with woodgrain accents and leather upholstery. The SLX comes in just one trim level-fully loaded.

AM General HummerMilitary customers don't much care about quiet and creature comforts (to them, quiet is an absence of gunfire and comfort is an absence of shrapnel), but civilian customers appreciate a little more coddling. That's why the Hummer super-sport/ute is undergoing improvements to civilize it, getting quieter and better equipped with each passing year. There's even a new optional 200-watt audio system available. Power comes from diesel (170 horsepower) and turbodiesel (195-horsepower) General Motors 6.5-liter V-8s. Available in two-passenger hardtop, four-passenger hardtop, open-top, and wagon body styles, the bigger-than-life Hummer commands respect, on-road and off.
