Porsche announces 911 Turbo Aerokit, GT3 recall

Porsche has made two recent announcements designed to help the Turbo Coupe and GT3/GT3RS variants of its grip-meister 911 model stick to the road even better.

The 911 Turbo Coupe is now available with a specially designed Aerokit that includes a front spoiler lip along with a redesigned engine cover with a fixed wing. Not only does the Aerokit make the 911 Turbo look even more menacing from either front or rear, it was also developed in Porsche's state-of-the-art wind tunnel, meaning that it actually does something purposeful. Porsche's goal for the Aerokit was to improve handling while maintaining the standard Turbo's 0.31 drag coefficient -- a goal that was ultimately met.

With the Aerokit fitted to the 911 Turbo Coupe, lift is reduced at both the front and rear axles, allowing for greater high-speed stability. Both the front lip and rear spoiler were designed in such a manner to compliment one another, mandating that they be installed as a package rather than individually. Both are painted body color, and will cost 4,500 euros if ordered on a new vehicle from Porsche Exclusive in Germany, or 4,100 euros (plus paint and fitting) if ordered to retrofit an existing car. The 911 Turbo Coupe Aerokit is available immediately.

Meanwhile, 128 of Porsche's 911 GT3 and GT3 RS models will receive a fix for troublesome traction control and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) buttons. According to Porsche, all cars involved in the recall were built between September 28 and November 9, 2007. Buttons installed at the factory on the affected cars were prone to failure -- a situation that could adversely affect the car's handling. Porsche says the fix will take approximately 30 minutes at any of its service departments and is free of charge to affected owners. No complaints have yet been filed by owners of the cars involved.
