Mercedes flexes AMG muscle, McLaren masterpiece at Paris

Mercedes-Benz is bringing some serious high-horsepower hardware to this year's Paris Motor Show in the form of its lastest AMG creation and a special-edition SLR.
The new CL63 AMG, the range-topping version of the CL-Class coupe, will make its world premiere alongside Mercedes' latest uber-creation, the SLR McLaren 722 Edition supercar.
The CL63 AMG is part of the automaker's 10-vehicle AMG assault in 2006. The super CL is powered by an AMG-massaged, 6.3-liter normally-aspirated V8 that pumps out 525-hp at 6800 rpm and 464 lb-ft of torque at 5200 rpm. The car screams from 0-62 mph in just 4.6 seconds and comes with all the top-flight AMG susupension and brake goodies as well as Mercedes' pre-safe systems.
In addition to the CL-Class getting the AMG treatment, Mercedes has also turned up the dial on the already formidable Mercedes-McLaren SLR with its SLR McLaren 722 Edition for those looking for even more performance and exclusivity.
The name harkens to the legendary victory achieved in 1955 by British racing icon Stirling Moss and his co-pilot Dennis Jenkinson at the Mille Miglia Italian endurance race behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz 300 SLR with start number 722 (denoting the car's start time of 7.22 a.m.).
Under the hood is a supercharged 5.5-liter V8 generating 650-hp, enabling the SLR 722 Edition to sprint from 0 to 0-62 mph in a true supercar time of 3.6 seconds. At present, Mercedes has no plans to bring the car to the U.S. market.
Mercedes will also be touting its new 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system on its show stand, which will first make its way to the S-Class.
