New RAV4 Breaks Cover

Stretch this Euro-market Toyota RAV4 long enough to accommodate a third-row seat, and you've got the North American SUV (to be built in a new Woodstock, Ontario, plant). Once much more diminutive than the Honda CR-V and other competitors, the new RAV has grown 15 inches, seven of those in wheelbase length. The new size will rival Toyota's own Highlander and will be the most powerful Toyota V-6 model in the U.S. The optional engine is a 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 (off seven horses from previous reports, due to the SAE's new power-measurement standard). A 166-horsepower, 2.4-liter I-4 will be standard. Toyota will offer base, Limited, and a new Sport package, the last with 18-inch wheels. All versions are available with front or all-wheel drive, the latter now with a manual locking switch.

The Euro-market model was shown with illuminated cupholders (like Scion's) and a "magic" fold-flat second row. Styling featured a Renault-like D-pillar, BMW-like, but subtle flame-surfacing in the profile, and a nose vaguely reminiscent of the Mercedes M-Class's.

As does FJ Cruiser
The production version of Toyota's 2007 FJ Cruiser looks like the concept version, but here's the first official photo. Launching in early 2006, the FJ comes in rear-drive or 4x4 with a 3.4-liter V-6 with a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual.
