The 350Z has been in production since late 2002 for the 2003 model year, and is sold as both a 2-door coupe and a roadster.
When the Z32 ceased sales in the United States market in 1996, Nissan began an effort to keep the Z-cars alive. Their efforts to redesign the original 240Z fell short of expectations, disappointing the original designer of the 240Z and appearing too retro, underpowered, and backward to the corporate heads. The car was redesigned again, and fitted with a VQ35DE engine, giving the car the 350Z name. This is the first Z that is not manufactured at the Shatai plant, but is instead assembled in Oppama, Japan.
