For the 2004 model year, the Ford Motor Company changed the name of their Ford Windstar minivan to the Ford Freestar in a marketing ploy involving the renaming of all of their cars to begin with the letter ?F?. The change was made at the suggestion of dealers, but was confusing to consumers who were already interested in the Windstar, and interest in the Freestar was not high after that. Instead of revitalizing interest in the minivan as Ford had hoped, the name change essentially killed the model, which ceased production after the 2007 model year.
