Saturn Overview

When General Motors saw the successes of the Japanese small cars in America, they were determined to create a subsidiary to emulate them. Saturn, which was named after the rocket that brought Americans to the moon, and not after the planet, was born in 1985, with the first cars being manufactured in 1990. The distribution system for the company was created from scratch, and the business systems of the plants were modeled after Japanese plants to give workers more control over their workplace.
