Saab Overview
The Saab car company was originally owned by Saab, a Swedish aircraft manufacturer which was established with the sole purpose of building military aircraft for use by the Swedish Air Force. The first Saab automobile, the Saab 92, was a streamlined 2-door saloon with a two cylinder engine. The three cylinder engine of the Saab 93 replaced it, and the company was renowned for their two stroke engines until emissions regulations ended their production in 1973. The company was doing well until 1988, after which they showed losses and were forced to sell half of the company to General Motors. GM turned the company around, showing a profit for the first time in 1995. In 2000, GM acquired the other 50% of the company.
