Lincoln Overview
Lincoln was founded in 1917 by Henry M. Leland. A former automobile parts manufacturer, Leland named his company after his childhood hero, Abraham Lincoln, America's 16th president. During WWI, the factories started out building aircraft engines. After the war, the same buildings were used to manufacture luxury automobiles. Subsequently, due to financial setbacks, Lincoln was sold to Ford Motor Company in 1922. By the 1930's, the company had achieved premium automobile status, with its new line of luxury sedans.
