Originally founded in 1922 as SS Cars Ltd in the United Kingdom, the company changed its name to Jaguar Cars Ltd in 1945 to match the sleek, powerful and fast cars that it had manufactured since 1935. In 1966, Jaguar Cars Ltd merged with British Motor Corporation to form British Motor Holdings, which in 1968 combined with Leyland and Rover to become British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC). Set with financial troubles and nationalization in 1975, BLMC became BL Ltd before Jaguar Cars Ltd was floated on the stock market in 1984 as a separate company.
