Hyundai Overview
Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) was established in 1967 in South Korea. In 1968, the company produced its first car model in cooperation with Ford Motor Company then in 1975, it released its first Korean car. The company entered the United States automobile market as Hyundai Motor America (HMA) with one affordable model in 1986. Despite brisk first year sales, the car gained a reputation for poor quality and sales plummeted over the next two years. HMC responded by investing heavily in long-term research of the quality, design, and manufacturing of its vehicles, thus reflecting its name's meaning of ?modernity? in Korean. In 2004, HMC posted US$57.2 billion worth of sales in South Korea, while 2005 saw worldwide sales of more than 2.5 million units. HMA is currently headquartered in Fountain Valley, California, with manufacturing plants and research & development centers in North America. Hyundai automobiles comprise sedans; sport utility vehicles; coupes, and concept cars, all with a slanted ?H? logo that represents two people - the company and client - shaking hands."
