Johnson Powers to Victory in Drag Finish With Help From Q - Auto News from July 31, 2008

HOUSTON, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Q(R) racing oil under the hood of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet helped Jimmie Johnson earn his second victory of the 2008 Sprint Cup season and pucker-up to the hallowed bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend. The caution-filled race led to a green-flag 7-lap sprint to the finish between Johnson and No. 99 driver Carl Edwards, where the Q racing oil in the engine of the No. 48 car helped provide the power to take the checkered flag.

"Crossing the line first at this year's Brickyard race demonstrates what a great team we have and what that team is capable of achieving," says Jeff Andrews, director of engine operations for Hendrick Motorsports. "It was a long and tough day of racing, but with Q racing oil under the hood, we can worry about the other parts of the car while still maximizing our engine's capability to provide us with the horsepower needed to win."

Initiated nearly a decade ago as a sponsorship, the Quaker State-Hendrick relationship has grown over the years into a championship-winning technical team, which has helped Hendrick Motorsports continue its winning ways into 2008. Q engineers have worked diligently with Hendrick Motorsports throughout the season to analyze and adjust the motor oil formulations provided in order to help maximize on-track success.

The results of the integrated relationship are tangible: with Q technology flowing through the engine of the No. 48 car, Johnson won nearly one-third of his races in 2007, and together the Hendrick Motorsports team won half of the races. Moreover, since the relationship began in 1996, Quaker State and Q racing oils have helped deliver a total of six Cup championships and 121 race wins with Hendrick Motorsports.

"The No. 48 crew never ceases to amaze us, and the entire Q team is honored to be a part of another momentous victory," said Troy Chapman, director of marketing, Quaker State and Q. "All of us on the Q team want to congratulate Jimmie Johnson and everyone who was a part of the No. 48 car's success in capturing Jimmie's victory at the Brickyard."

Heat-activated Q racing oil was initially developed in 2005 for Hendrick Motorsports to reduce friction under stressful race conditions while helping maximize power and performance for the team's engines. The technology in Q racing oils helped every driver in the Hendrick garage visit victory lane at least once last season. The heat-activated technology in Q HorsePower(TM) motor oil was identified by the same team who created the Q racing oil formula for the engines of Hendrick Motorsports, including the formula that helped power Jimmie Johnson to the 2006 and 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Championships.
