PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Greensgrow Philadelphia Project, a leading pioneer of urban agriculture, today unveiled a New Orleans themed green roof exhibit at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Celebrating 10 years as the regions' premier Urban Farming operation, Greensgrow and its corporate sponsor Subaru of America continue to support what each of us can do to create liveable communities.

"The benefits of green roofs include reduced heating and cooling cost, retained rainwater runoff (conserving municipal septic systems), and reduction of noise impact," said Greensgrow founder Mary Seton Corboy. "Greensgrow is a great resource for the city and fills a huge void in the local green scene in that we have actually been able to bring to fruition many innovative projects that are of interest to the community. This canopy green roof model, the use of hydroponics, and producing bio-diesel are among those projects that we have developed, nurtured, and realized here."

"This year Greensgrow celebrates a decade of growing food and flowers in the Kensington section of Philadelphia," said Greensgrow Philadelphia Project board President, Jerry F. Naples, Jr. "As we recognize our 10 years of success we are looking ahead to build on our commitment to find, build and bolster, better ways to grow and create a green community and entrepreneurial opportunities in our cities."

Greensgrow Farm runs a successful Springtime Nursery, Farm Stand, and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture program), on what was once a trash-strewn vacant lot that was deemed unusable. "Greensgrow has fully integrated itself into our neighborhood and community and has given new use to forgotten land," said longtime resident, Marianne Yeager. "I walk around this neighborhood and see plants that I know came from Greensgrow. Their presence here has made this neighborhood a nicer place to live."

The 2008 season starts on March 19.
