IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- What's your excuse? When it comes to not voting, no excuse is a good excuse, especially when you're voting for your favorite hometown hero. The poll to select America's greatest heroes closes Feb. 4, 2007, just two weeks away. More than 460,000 votes have already been cast in the Fifth Annual Volvo for life Awards, the nation's largest annual search for and celebration of everyday heroes.
If you think it's too late and your vote won't count now, or you think you don't have time to cast your vote, think again! Volvo has anticipated five top voting excuses and has convincing reasons why they won't fly:
* "I'm too busy, I don't have time to vote" -- Two weeks remain to visit
www.volvoforlifeawards.com to cast a vote for your favorite hero with a
simple click of your mouse. It takes less than a minute to make your
voice heard -- no driving, no waiting in line.
* "My vote won't count" -- Every single vote will be factored in to the
selection of this year's Volvo for life Awards finalists. No electoral
college. No hanging chad ballots thrown out. And it's a close race.
Your vote could tip the balance.
* "I'm not eligible to vote" -- This is a true democratic vote.
Citizenship and age don't matter in this election. Everyone can
support local heroes with their vote. No valid voter registration card
required.
* "The weather is bad" -- Voting for your favorite hometown hero can be
done from the comfort of your own home or right from your desk! Save
the snow shovel and umbrellas for later, log on now and recognize those
individuals who make a difference in your community.
* "I don't like the candidates" -- There's no political posturing with
these candidates. Just pure, uninhibited passion for helping others.
A vote for a hero equals a vote for improving your community.
So, no excuses! Support your local heroes, five representing each state, with a vote and help bring more funding to your community.
Volvo Cars of North America leads this national initiative, honoring and rewarding local heroes. Visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com and learn more about what these amazing hometown heroes are doing to make your state a better place now and in the future.
Volvo is giving a total of nearly $1 million in financial contributions -- three winners will receive $50,000 for their cause, six remaining finalists win $25,000 and one Grand Prize winner will get a new Volvo for the rest of his or her life.
Once the public vote concludes, the top three vote getters in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life and Environment will be named finalists. Then, a panel of distinguished judges -- including Hank Aaron, Sen. Bill Bradley, Caroline Kennedy, Maya Lin, Paul Newman, Dr. Sally Ride, Val Kilmer, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and previous Volvo for life Awards top winners -- will select winners in each category.
Volvo and members of the celebrity-judging panel will honor the winning heroes on April 5, 2007 at the 42nd St. Cipriani during the 5th Annual Volvo for life Awards Ceremony. There, Volvo will reveal which of the three top heroes is also the Grand Award winner of a Volvo vehicle every three years for the rest of his or her life.
