DETROIT, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Veteran automotive journalist David E. Davis Jr. will become the 3rd recipient of ROAD & TRAVEL Magazine's (RTM) annual Lifetime Achievement Award, at RTM's annual International Car of the Year Awards (ICOTY) on January 7, 2006.

With a long and illustrious career as one of the auto industry's most colorful and unique journalists, and founder of Automobile Magazine, Davis will be honored by RTM. In addition to RTM, video testimonials for Davis will come from famed Shelby Cobra designer, Carroll Shelby; Rick Wagoner, Chairman & CEO, General Motors Corporation; Tom Purves, Chairman & CEO, BMW of North America; Jim Press, President & COO, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.; and Barry Meguiar, President of Meguiar's, Inc, to name a few. DaimlerChrysler Corporation is sponsoring the award.

The ICOTY Awards honor the top 10 vehicles for the new model year as chosen by a jury of 12 nationally-renowned automotive journalists with ballots tabulated by J.D. Power and Associates. Among the awards are Car and Truck of the Year. CBS Detroit will televise ICOTY's 10th anniversary and present a one-hour special during the opening weekend of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

"The ICOTY Awards focus on the emotional connection between car and consumer, how they reflect lifestyles and self-image, an attitude the average consumer can identify with," says RTM Editor-In-Chief Courtney Caldwell.
