The German auto maker Audi has been committed to consistent growth since its founding in 1899 by August Horch. The company's German theme is "Advancement through Technology" and its move from Auto Union to Volkswagen following World War II has helped facilitate that development. The postwar move to the German Democratic Republic was indeed a necessity because the Auto Union plants were destroyed during combat. The move to the Volkswagen family in 1964 not only helped push the company name forward but improved resources for the high level sedans.
The last four decades have helped Audi forge a reputation as a safe choice for drivers throughout the world. While detractors consider the auto line too conservative in a market of flashy sports cars, the company has seen unprecedented growth in the last fifteen years. New dealerships have recently opened up in the booming economy of India while steady sales in Africa and Eastern Europe portend a good future for this historically rich company.
