Nissan Motors, formerly known as Datsun Motors, is a successful Japanese automotive manufacturer. Nissan is the third largest Japanese motor company, and significant competition for US auto makers. The VQ engine used in many of their vehicles is among the top ten in the world. Nissan Motors itself was founded in 1934, growing out of earlier companies, including Datsun, and produced trucks, planes and engines for the Japanese military. Alliances over time with a variety of other manufacturers, from Austin Motors to a recent alliance with Renault have helped the company progress. Today, Nissan manufactures a wide range of vehicles, from economy sedans to luxury sports cars, sold in the United States under both their own label and the Infiniti label. Hybrid models are even available for the environmentally conscious. Choices include sports cars, sedans, crossover SUVs, SUVs, trucks and minivans, so options from economical to luxurious are available."
