Originally founded in 1922 as SS Cars Ltd in the United Kingdom, the company changed its name to Jaguar Cars Ltd in 1945 to match the sleek, powerful and fast cars that it had manufactured since 1935. In 1966, Jaguar Cars Ltd merged with British Motor Corporation to form British Motor Holdings, which in 1968 combined with Leyland and Rover to become British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC). Set with financial troubles and nationalization in 1975, BLMC became BL Ltd before Jaguar Cars Ltd was floated on the stock market in 1984 as a separate company. Ford Motor Company purchased Jaguar Cars Ltd in September 1989, and it immediately became part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group. The current Jaguar headquarters is at Coventry in the West Midlands, and cars are assembled at Castle Bromwich, Birmingham and Halewood, Liverpool. The Jaguar line consists of luxury coupes, convertibles and sedans. Jaguar cars are easily identifiable by the silver jaguar insignia on the hood, and hold Royal Warrants from both HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Charles."
