Nissan Titan Model Info

A full-sized pickup truck, the Nissan Titan offers an alternative for people looking for a truck that is not made by GM, Ford, or Chrysler. However while the Titan was intended to be an alternative and not a rival to vehicles made by the Big Three, the versatility and power it offers is certainly enough to give them a run for their money.

Available in two body styles: extended-cab (King Cab), or crew-cab with both cab styles available in two bed lengths. On top of this Nissan adds more variety by offering each body style in four trim levels: starting-level XE, midlevel SE, off-road oriented PRO-4X, and the luxury-themed LE.

Notable differences between the different Nissan Titan trims consist of the LE having a front bench seat while the other trims have captain’s chairs with flow-through consoles. The PRO-4X, aimed at off-road enthusiasts comes equipped with Rancho shocks, a lower final-drive ratio, underbody skid plates, electronic locking differential, and 18-inch off-road wheels and tires. The PRO-4X also has certain exterior and interior features that set it apart from other trims. Depending on the trim other features available for the new Nissan Titan include upgraded audio systems, navigation system, front-seat side and side curtain airbags, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, sunroof, towing packages, and utility enhancing cargo bed features.

Power for the Titan comes from a 5.6-liter V8 engine capable of putting out 317 horsepower and 385 ft-lbs of torque. The Nissan Titan’s V8 is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and features a tow/haul mode for use when pulling or carrying heavy loads and makes it possible for the truck to tow more than 9,000 pounds when properly equipped. Unfortunately all this power comes at the price of fuel efficiency with the Titan rated at 9 mpg city and 12 mpg highway.

Nissan Titan History

One of the only full-size pickups from a company other than Ford, GM, or Chrysler, and perhaps the first Japanese pickup that has all the features and attributes consumers would expect from a full-size pickup, the Nissan Titan raises the bar on what a full-size pickup truck should be.

Since its debut in 2004, the Nissan Titan has gone through few changes. Aside from minor changes such as new features, options, and styling updates the most notable update was the introduction of long-wheelbase models in 2008. Despite offering numerous options and features the Titan has been criticized for being too limited by having no regular cab body style or V6 engine option available.

For those who are looking at buying a used Nissan Titan may want to avoid models built before 2007 due to those models having a reduced maximum payload.
