Dodge Magnum History

The original Dodge Magnum was a large coupe built from 1978-1979 that served somewhat as a replacement for the Dodge Charger and was Dodge’s attempt at making a more aerodynamic car that would be eligible for NASCAR. This version of the Magnum was short-lived though, lasting only a year before being discontinued in favor of the Mirada.

The Dodge Magnum was later revived as a station wagon in 2005. At the time of its revival the Magnum was the first station wagon produced by Dodge since the Colt was discontinued in 1991 and the largest American-brand station wagon since the Chevrolet Caprice and Buick Roadmaster Estate were discontinued in 1996, the Dodge Magnum is basically a station wagon version of the Chrysler 300 due to both models being built on Chrysler’s LX platform.

During its brief lifespan the Dodge Magnum went through a slight facelift and updated interior in 2008. These updates include a more aggressive front fascia with squared off headlights and a smaller more rectangular grille.

2008 was the last year of the Magnum with it being succeeded by the Dodge Journey, a mid-sized crossover wagon.
