Chrysler Pacifica Model Info

A "sports tourer," the Chrysler Pacifica is a mid-sized crossover that combines the convenience of a minivan, the height of an SUV, and the handling of a sedan.

Available in three trims: LX, Touring, and Limited with each trim available in front or all-wheel drive configuration. The LX is the base trim, equipped with minimal features and options such as dual-zone climate control, power driver seat, and load-leveling suspension. The Chrysler Pacifica Touring and Limited are more upscale and are equipped with enough room to seat up to six people as well as additional standard features which include automatic headlights, fog light, and SIRIUS satellite radio.

Depending on the trim, power for the Chrysler Pacifica can come from either a 200 horsepower 3.8 liter V6 engine or a 253 horsepower 4-liter V6 engine. While the interior of the Pacifica has been described as roomy and versatile, it has also been the subject of criticism for being small and unaccommodating in certain places. The first two seating-rows are said to be roomy and spacious for occupants, however the third row in the Touring and Limited trims are small and cramped with spacing that is only acceptable for children and small adults. Also, while the rear seats of the Chrysler Pacifica can fold into the floor for added room, the cargo area becomes almost nonexistent when they are deployed leaving little room for cargo when all the seats are filled.

Chrysler Pacifica History

While some may see the Pacifica as a mid-sized crossover, it is the first SUV from Chrysler and the first vehicle whose engineering was the product of the 1998 Chrysler-DaimlerBenz “merger of equals.” Development, for the Chrysler Pacifica took 30 months and was reported to have costs below $1 billion.

The Pacifica is a very safe vehicle, scoring very highly in NHTSA traffic tests as well as winning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety award for “best pick frontal” in 2007.

While it is a very safe vehicle, the Pacifica does score very poorly in terms of reliability with Consumer Reports magazine rating it as “much worse than average” and stated that it had one of the lowest consumer satisfaction ratings in their database.

When it was first introduced, Chrysler called the Pacifica the next “big thing” in the crossover market, expecting it to surpass other vehicles in this segment. Unfortunately problems in the initial production caused the Pacifica to gain a poorer reception then what Chrysler expected.

The Chrysler Pacifica was discontinued with the 2008 models with the last model produced in November of 2007. Chrysler currently has made no announcements whether it would be brought back or not.
